What happens to a child when their mother or father serves in the military? We conducted a comprehensive study of the mental health, social needs, and values of children aged 10–16 from the families of veterans and military personnel.

1,252 families completed the survey, and 80 in-depth interviews were conducted.

55% of children constantly experience fear or sadness;
53% are in a state of heightened stress;
48% avoid news about the war;
87% are proud of their parents, but 43% sometimes hide it.
